Poured at 6°C from a 355ml can into a Teku. Turbid orange under a dense head that holds the shape of the pour.
The pale / oat bill carries the structure and Galaxy / Nelson Sauvin does the seasoning. At 7.0% and 48 IBU it sits where the style should, and Other Half have resisted the urge to push it anywhere else.
The Galaxy / Nelson Sauvin is extraordinary in the glass and merely good in the mouth. That is a small complaint about a beer doing most things right, but it is the reason this is not a nine.
It holds together across a second glass, which is not guaranteed at 7.0%. The bitterness accumulates rather than fatigues, and the aroma is still doing something by the bottom of the second pour, which is the real test of a hazy ipa.
The haze is stable rather than sloppy, and it has not been used to hide anything. There is no yeast bite and no chalky residue in the finish, which puts it ahead of most of the shelf.
This is a perfectly competent beer with nothing much to say for itself, and there is no shame in that. At $8.75 / 473ml it is a reasonable trade. Whether you would choose it over the two better things beside it on the shelf is a different question.
Bought at Import shelf (rotating at the time of writing). Best within three weeks. It goes papery fast.
Not a beer to seek out, but not one to send back either.
